Red, Yellow and Blue

Had a reminding moment that one ought to be looking upward when she is outside taking a stroll. The sky was breath taking. Sparkling blue and so high and autumn-like, and the Ferris wheel made the blue even more blue in contrast. It was so pretty I had to take a shot of it.

By Akashi Park that I mentioned in the previous post.

I knew at that moment when I saw it, that in 18 years when A has all grown up and leaves home for college, I will come across the same sky against the wheel and have a moment of nostalgia, thinking about the time when I used to go for a walk in the late afternoon and A looked so small in the stroller. Tears.

First Snow Day

Woke up at parents house, thinking that the lights coming into the room from the curtain gaps were a little too bright. I opened the curtains up to find...

...the winder wonderland!

Why is it so exciting, no matter how freaking cold and no mattter how grossly wet the street gets afterwards, to have the first snow of the winter on the ground?

Pretty all around us.

A Portrait of the Sky

Doesn't this look like a painting by Monet or a Romanticism painter alike? It's a close-up shot of one summer evening sky from the balcony of my flat.

Blue Summer

I was on the living room couch, and looked up out the window to realize how refreshingly blue the sky was.

This is why it's hard for me to completely hate summer, despite the heat.

The View from the Top

I haven't blogged much about the Hong Kong trip that I have just taken. So far I've got "deserts" and "noodles" down, coming off like I only went there to eat. I've been spending less and less time on line, and on top of that I haven't really looked through the pictures I took either.

Allow me to regain cyber respect, and let me tell you the best thing that I came across during the trip... well, at the end of the trip, more like, but here goes.

The sunset, caught from the small window while waiting for the laboratory on the plane, was tear-sheddingly beautiful. I'm glad I stood up at that moment from the seat to go loo in the air.

October Sky

I never saw the film October Sky, but I heard it has a pretty touching story.

There is no story about this, but I was pretty darn touched by the October sky that I happened to see from my parents' frontyard.

For 3 breath-taking minutes. I stood there almost in owe.

The Catcher in the Rice

Well, the title of this post has nothing to do with anything, really.

No, there is no one in the crops waiting to catch the running children right on the edge. I just thought, when I saw the golden field with the sun shining down on it, J.D. Salinger had something in his mind not too far from the image above when he wrote his masterpiece. Except it's not a rye field you are looking at here. The crops happen to be rice, in my parents' neighborhood, ready to be harvested.

Just something I stumbled upon on my lovely day off one autumn day.

A "Devil" Moment

The cutest little devil I have laid my eyes on...

...at a Halloween event (that I stumbled upon when I was at the place for something else) over the weekend. Totally made my day.

I had to take the pics in a stalker-ish way, 'cause I don't know this kid at all. It was great how he hardly ever moved an inch despite everything else that was moving around him and came in a blur.

Happy early Halloween!

The Pocahontas Moment

I've repeatedly declared my love for sunset in the past (http://diaryofajapanadian.blogspot.com/2009/06/room-with-view.html), but this one, last Friday, was just tear-sheddingly beautiful.

See the little moon there too?

I was sick the good half of last week. Away from where I should have been (at work), I stood in my balcony looking at the wonders happening before my eyes, and somehow the fever and the condition with my stomach and other innards that had made me feel weak to the core seemed to fade away, washing off the virus that had been taking hold of my biology.

Reminded. One of my favorite songs by Jewel goes:

I had this theory that if we are told we are bad
that's the only idea we'll ever have
but maybe if we are surrounded in beauty
Someday we will become what we see
'Cause anyone can start a conflict
it's harder yet to disregard it
I'd rather see the world from another angle

It's time like this when I look at the sky as captured that I feel like telling her with affection, "we are surrounded in beauty; we just have to start seeing it. BTW I love your songs."

I truly think we underestimate what the beauty of nature can do to us on a very fundamental level. It definitely made my otherwise miserable day.

Blue and Green

I seldom stay outside for a rather clinical reason than out of preference. (You can find it out in my entry if you are interested: http://diaryofajapanadian.blogspot.com/2009/07/sun-and-me.html. ) But last Sunday, I joined a BBQ that took place under the late summer sun for 6 hours or so. I hadn't been out for that long in a long, long time. I was perfectly fine, though, since the leaves of trees provided really nice shade the whole time we were there, despite the otherwise scorching sun.

Anyway, to get to the point, I can't get over how magical the place was. It was a camping site up on a mountain and quite secluded, yet close enough from the civilization that it only took us a mere 10-minute drive to get. The cloudless blue above us gave a really nice contrast to the green that was around us.

I had forgotten how nice it feels to be in woods. The air feels nice and clean in your lungs. You feel like you have a better eye sight. I wish I could have had a nap there.

Until next time,

Sak
